DO YOU NEED COACHING?
If you are proficient in English, you still need to take coaching to
familiarize yourself with the format of the test and maximize your scores.
The listening tests in IELTS, TOEFL and OET will test your capacity in understanding English accents as used in various English speaking countries. Take unlimited practice tests to familiarize yourself with the native English accent.
Do not register for the test if you have difficulty in using the English language. Take English classes, achieve a certain proficiency level before appearing for any of these tests. (Our trainers/counselors will let you know you if you are ready for the test or not.)
“Crash courses” do not help in improving your scores.
If you are re-taking a test to improve your score, it is not a good idea to re-take it within two weeks. This is because, it is unlikely that you will show much improvement in such a short time. Do not give yourself a chance to get frustrated. Moreover, you will land up losing your registration money. It is better to give it at least 2-3 months time before retaking a re-test.

- The OET is made up of four sub-tests: Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking. The Listening and Reading sub-tests are common to all candidates. You take different Writing and Speaking sub-tests depending on your profession.
Listening
Time allowed: About 50 minutes
For this sub-test you listen to a recording in two parts. Part A is a consultation between a health professional and a patient. You are required to take notes under given headings. Part B is a lecture on a health-related issue. There is a range of listening tasks to complete. Pauses in the recording allow you time to write the answers. The Listening sub-test is marked by assessors who receive comprehensive training before each administration.
Reading
Time allowed: 60 minutes
This sub-test contains two texts on health-related issues. You are required to answer between 10 and 14 multiple choice questions per text, recording your answers on a special answer sheet. The answer sheet is scanned by computer and the data analysed.
Writing
Profession specific
Time allowed: 45 minutes (including 5 minutes of reading time)
For this sub-test, you are required to write a response to case notes or other information provided. The response required is usually in the form of a referral or transfer letter. You should write around 180 to 200 words. Two assessors independently mark each writing script.
Speaking
Profession specific
Time allowed: 25 minutes
For the Speaking sub-test you take your professional role in two separate role-plays with an interviewer. The whole interview, including a brief warm-up session, is recorded. Two assessors independently mark each speaking recording.
- The written papers are normally scheduled in the morning starting at 9.00 am. The Listening, Reading and Writing sub-tests are completed by 1.00 pm. The individual Speaking interviews are timetabled for the afternoon, from around 1.00 pm until 6.00 pm. You must be available for the whole of this period; the exact time of your interview is sent to you with the detailed venue information.
